HOmework
The purpose of homework is to reinforce concepts learned at school and give children the chance to apply and practice those skills. For older children, homework may also be related to introducing a topic before it is taught. For Kindergarten students, homework should take an average of 20 minutes a night.
I assign math homework on a nightly basis (1 to 4 nights a week) based on the daily lessons. The worksheets are not due until Friday. So, even if I send a worksheet home on Tuesday, it isn't due back until Friday. Most students go ahead and complete the worksheet and return it to school, but if a child has soccer on Tuesday and doesn't get a chance to do it, he or she can wait and do it Wednesday or Thursday instead. If you have a problem with the homework or a conflict, please let me know. I will work with you.
Monday afternoon a weekly homework sheet will go home with an activity for the student to complete for each day of the week (Monday - Thursday). See example below. Again, these activities will not be due until Friday, but can be completed each night and submitted the next day or turned in when finished. We do ask that you use a separate sheet of paper for the activities.
Every night students are also expected to read for 10 minutes in the RAZ-Kids program on the computer/app or from a book and record it in the reading log attached to the purple folder. Students should also study their sight words (see sight words)
